For most people, a combo might be a pretzel filled with fake cheese or a small jazz band. In the Fighting Game Community, a combo means only one thing: a chance to show your style. Well before the age of content creation and Twitch streamers, combo videos allowed fighting gamers to share tech, show off their personality, and bring the community together. Even now, there’s nothing more mind-blowing than watching a competitor pull off a fancy new combo mid-match. Due to COVID-19, FGCers haven’t seen much of that in recent months. But Andbox, a New York-based esports organization, is aiming to change that.
Earlier today, Andbox announced a combo video contest with $1,600 in prizes. Though the trailer is light on details, it appears that the contest will operate across Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter V, and Tekken 7. Together with Red Bull Gaming, Andbox plans to solicit clips from aspiring combo masters and judge them on creativity, damage, and swag. They haven’t announced the mechanism that they’ll use to collect players’ submissions, but we do know that the contest will start on October 19. So if you’ve got the magic touch, now is the time to hit training mode and get your execution looking nice and crisp. Andbox plans to provide more details soon, so we’ll keep you up to date here at toptier. For now, check out their trailer below, then follow them on Twitter so you don’t miss out on the action.
