The Arc System Works team behind Guilty Gear Strive launched a brand new blog series, the “Developer Backyard.” With this project, the team hopes to “create a conversation between us…and the players.”

The first entry focused on feedback from the recent closed beta, including statistics and direct responses to several concerns from the beta survey. Both general series director Daisuke Ishiwatary and Strive director Akira Katano addressed concerns about the flow of matches, the lobby interface, and more.

One of the prominent player concerns from the beta was a feeling that damage was too high and combo routes limited. Katano revealed that damage was “extreme” in the beta to drive home a core concept of the game.

“A central idea behind this title,’ said Ishiwatari, “is that you can deal big damage without memorizing long combos…” The directors confirmed that they plan to adjust damage before the game launches next year. They also discussed combos in Strive and how they plan to give players more “freedom” than previous titles when choosing combo options.

The team also shared a few statistics from survey responses, including ratings for game features Most played and requested characters also made the list, with Sol by far most played and Baiken most requested in nearly every region.

Guilty Gear fans that participated in the beta will find a lot of their notes addressed in the first “Developer Backyard.” The team assured players that they’ll continue using the series to respond to player opinions and sharing new information as development progresses. Guilty Gear Strive is currently slated to launch in early 2021.
