In both the Fighting Game Community and society at large, 2020 has been a time of reflection and self-evaluation. From the extraordinary demands placed on us by COVID-19 to the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests to the recent reports of sexual abuse, we all have something to learn from.
As the community works to improve itself, it’s vital to listen to the voices of those who are personally affected. Thankfully, James Chen and “Ultra” David Graham of UltraChenTV recently gave us the opportunity to do just that. In a recent episode of their Tuesday Show, they gave a platform to three Black FGCers: “Boeken,” a translator and former FGC team manager; Sheila “dapurplesharpie” Moore, a content creator, tournament organizer, and community leader; and “Tasty” Steve Scott, a premier commentator and MC. These three give their unbiased thoughts about the good, the bad, and the ugly of being Black in the United States and the FGC. And while much of what they say is positive, it’s also clear that we have more work to do in order to live up to our promise.
All three videos below, so take some time out of your day to listen to these important testimonies. When you’re done, be sure to support the people involved. You can find Boeken on Twitter; Moore on Twitter, Twitch, YouTube, and Instagram; and Scott on Twitter, Twitch, and YouTube. And for more important FGC news and content, be sure to follow UltraChenTV on Twitter, Twitch, and YouTube.
