Five Things You Don’t Know About Your Favorite FGCers

The Fighting Game Community responds to the "introduce yourself" meme
By on January 7, 2020

Just after the new year, screenwriter Gary Graham posted a tweet in which he challenged everyone to introduce themselves to the world by naming “five things about you [that] most people don’t know.” The Fighting Game Community has responded, and the answers range from the amazing to the hilarious.

Anyone who follows the FGC knows that we’re a multi-talented group. From Sherry “Sherryjenix” Nhan’s work navigating the US visa system to Justin Wong’s talents as a creator of absurdist tier lists, FGCers have never been shy about demonstrating their talents outside of the game. But did you know that David “UltraDavid” Graham was a poet, that Logan Sama climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, or that Josh “NerdJosh” Jodoin rafted the Grand Canyon? Long “LPN” Nguyen is a common sight in top 8, but he’s also a sketch comedian and an avid dancer. Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo even raced a cheetah! (He lost, though.)

If you read through the responses in full, you’ll also see that FGCers have touched and been touched by history. From the apartheid regime in South Africa to presidential elections in the United States, we’ve been interested and active participants in the unfolding of the future. And don’t assume that we’re not in shape just because we’re gamers: Jodoin was a multi-sport athlete, Arya Tayebi was a fencer and boxer, and Nguyen is a real-life martial artist.

Perhaps the best response of all comes from Sheila “dapurplesharpie” Moore. I won’t spoil it for you, but you can see her tweet below, along with Graham’s, Logan Sama’s, Jodoin’s, Nguyen’s, Parbhoo, Tayebi’s, and more. We’ve even included responses from our very own Henry “Choysauce” Choi and myself, Eli “BODIEDnovel” Horowitz. We’d love to hear from you, too, so add your five facts in the comments or tweet them to us @toptiergg!

Eli Horowitz (@BODIEDnovel) wrote a novel about the FGC, and if you don’t know that by now then clearly you haven’t been reading his bylines.
