In sad news for the Fighting Game Community, Bandai Namco Esports announced this morning that it would cancel its official support for all remaining in-person events this year. The company posted a statement on Twitter citing “an abundance of care and caution for the health and safety of tournament participants and staff.”
But there is a silver lining. In the same statement, the company also said that it was “finalizing online competition event solutions” and that it would “have more news to share soon.” If so, Bandai Namco would join Capcom in the list of fighting game developers that have moved their pro tours online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve posted their entire statement below, and we’ll continue to report on this as the story unfolds.
