Umbrella is announced as the next character coming to Skullgirls mobile and 2nd Encore.
Umbrella is a girl who mainly uses her living weapon named Hungern. The initial plans for her design is to be a slow character with heavy swings and she will involve Hungern quite a bit for her attacks. Hungern will also have a hunger mechanic that will skew your playstyle one way or another. If Hungern is “hungry”, then attacks will be slower, but devouring attacks will be much stronger (possibly grabs?). If Hungern is “overstuffed”, moves that have him throw stuff up will be stronger. And if Hungern is “ravenous”, which is a very low but not totally hungry state, the character will be extremely strong. The balance for this ravenous mode will be to make it difficult to maintain this state. The team does say that this is HEAVILY subject to change, so don’t get your hopes up about the plans for her play style.
The design of this character may be recognizable for those who are familiar with their salt brands. In case you aren’t familiar with American salt brands, the Morton’s Salt would be the item to look to. The designers are definitely not lacking in their familiarity with the fighting game community’s culture.
Currently, there is no release date or gameplay footage as this character is still in the alpha stages. But players who are Steam Season 1 Pass owners will be able to play a sketchy version of her around July, 2021. Her full release is planned for Q4 of 2021.
