Once again, a short trailer has been released for DNF DUEL featuring a character we’ve seen in the previous trailers, this time around the Inquisitor is up for show. The trailer is just as short as the Berserker’s and while that doesn’t give the best insight into how the Inquisitor or DNF DUEL plays, it’s better than waiting another year for a character trailer.
While looking at the gameplay, it looks like Labry- sorry, the Inquisitor, has some good setup potential with multiple types of bombs or vials being thrown at the opponent as they’re knocked down. We see a firebomb as well as a vial of some sort of liquid (holy water? Jarate? Idk) as throwables in the trailer, as well as a visually alarming giant spiked wheel of doom which looks like it could be used for setups while taking up about half the screen. So far this game certainly looks like it’s being made with a strong classic ArcSys influence, although we haven’t seen any detailed explanations of the system, so it’s unclear what the game will play like in the hands of players.
It’s also unclear whether the title will contain simplified gameplay to appeal to DFO players or not. Granblue Fantasy Versus is a similar game in terms of circumstance, and it aimed to capture GBF players by creating a very simple battle and input system, which created its own issues with power creep between new and original characters on the roster. It remains to be seen what approach 8ing and ArcSys are taking with DNF DUEL, but with another trailer released already, it seems like the last few trailers were not just coy teases. Hopefully, a gameplay reveal will happen sometime in the next few weeks after the lead-up of already known characters but time will tell what is in store for the well-anticipated game.
